Over it

I don't know about you, but I am SO ready for Friday to get here.

& I am SO over coming home after work with a pissy husband just b/c he's tired, sick, stressed, whatever, whatever. I try to keep a good attitude when he comes home from work. Is it too much to ask for at least a pleasant smile so I feel like I'm welcome in my own house?

Yes, I'm venting right now. I'll get over it.

5 1/2

Yesterday, B went to his 6th month wellness check. He's still 5 1/2 mths but I guess it doesn't matter.

He weighed 17.8lbs, 26inches long, 44cm head circ. This all puts him in the 50-75 percentile. Looks like it's true, babies that are bf tend to sprout up at the beginning & then even out around 6mths. At least it's true for Briley.

I told Dr. C about us not getting around to trying foods yet. He said that was fine and reiterated the fact that right now it was more about him learning to use his mouth as a chewing tool & not just sucking, so nutritional wise, it wasn't a big deal. He also mentioned that we might need to supplement 1-2oz of formula to his bottles b/c I'm only pumping 5oz maximum on a regular basis & most 6m/o formula fed babies are eating 6-8oz. He's not really concerned b/c B is growing just fine. But he said that if I have a busy day at work, and don't get to drink plenty of fluids, my supply might be down. So, after talking to Will, I am going to try to really focus on drinking TONS of water at work. If this doesn't increase my supply well enough, then we'll look into formula. I'm just not ready to supplement yet. Maybe it's a pride thing, or a need to feel like I'm doing a good job as a mom...I know, supplementing doesn't mean I'm a bad mom. It's just that right now I'm not ready to give in/up. Plus, with me going PT now, we really can't afford another pricey thing to add to our long list of necessities. So, there's that.

Also, I wasn't prepared when I went there yesterday to be given the decision of whether to give B the flu shot or H1N1. Will wasn't able to go with me yesterday, so of course, the one visit he can't make is the one that I need to make a decision about treatments. After talking to Dr. C about the pros/cons and chances of him contracting the flu...I decided to wait and talk to Will about it. I don't want my child to be sick, but, at the same time, I don't want to get him vaccinated needlessly. He doesn't go to daycare. However, my niece is now in kindergarten & she's around other kids who could get her sick and she could bring it to my mom's house (my mom watches the kids 1-2times a week all together). I think we are probably at least going to get the flu shot for him. At least until he's a bit older and can build his own immune system. Granted, he gets antibodies from me, & I received the H1N1 for him, but I am not getting the flu shot myself. So,....okay, I'm done jabbering. You get the point.

Tonight Will and I are going to see ST.OMP!! It was a birthday gift (well, belated by about 4mths). So we are dropping B off at my moms and then going to dinner and the show. I'm pretty excited to see it. I saw it performed back in high school during a choir trip to NY, but that was years ago. It'll be nice to get out and hopefully feel like a couple & not just a mommy & daddy.

When I was going through IF treatments and the whole struggle in general, I used to always have dreams of what I wanted to do with my kid(s) if I was ever given the chance. Especially during the holidays. Okay, mainly Christmas. It was always my favorite time of the year. & yes, it was hard to see families together when I was unable to have one of my own...but I STILL loved the holiday. I loved what it meant. I loved time with family & family traditions. I loved feeling like a kid myself.

I want to share some of my favorite family traditions we had growing up...
1) Our church's cmas eve candelight service. It's just beautiful. There are only a couple of lights on, mostly candles lit, cmas music, a short sermon from my dad, a children's story read down front (I read it last year) & the kids come down & sit on the floor to listen, communion, singing "happy birthday" to Jesus, & then it's over. It feels so warm & comforting. & it's nice to be reminded what we really celebrate this holiday.

2) We always got to open up ONE gift on cmas eve before we went to bed. Over the years we started hoping to open certain things...& it was usually new pajamas. Then we'd all put them on (3 girls, 1 boy) & wear them most of the next day.

3) Breakfast casserole....Y.U.M.M.Y. My mom always made it & it is seriously one of my favorite dishes of all times.

4) We always woke up, ate casserole, read the Christmas story from the Bible, opened gifts, then stockings, then lunch...oh & we always had to watch at least one video that one of us received as a gift.

5) We always watch "White Christmas" & "It's a Wonderful Life."

6) Us 3 girls, along with my SIL, went to see a movie together that afternoon.

AND, if we were ever lucky enough to get it (which is rare here at actual cmas time), SNOW on Christmas Day. Not a tradition, but I love it, along with the lights, the music....I love how it makes me feel. I hate the commercialism of it all, but I love family & traditions.

So, what's your favorite traditions you had as a child? What are ones you hope to one day share with your future family? Maybe a favorite memory? Funny Story? Let's feel good together:-) It's early, I know, but c'mon, we can all use a little positive in our lives, eh?
